Houdini eventually went on to become one of the most iconic magicians in history, and his career was highly influenced by the tutelage of Kellar. Houdini learned the tricks of the trade from Kellar, and he was even given the opportunity to perform some of Kellar’s illusions when Kellar was unable to do so. As a young man, Houdini was inspired by Kellar’s act and eventually became his apprentice and assistant. He was renowned for his daring escapes and mystifying illusions, and his act was so successful that he soon became a headliner in the world’s most prestigious theaters. Kellar was a Hungarian-born magician and illusionist, who was considered to be one of the greatest magicians of the 19th century. Houdini’s mentor was a man named Jakob Hyman Bessalo, known as “Kellar the Magician”.
